Clutch Partners with Michigan Credit Union League

April 11, 2024

Credit union leagues sit at an interesting point in the technology adoption curve: they can’t buy technology on behalf of their members, but they can shape which vendors get a fair hearing across the institutions they represent. Clutch’s new partnership with the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) is built on that dynamic.

Through the partnership, MCUL member credit unions get a more direct path to Clutch’s digital lending and account opening platform, aimed at reducing the operational lift most institutions face when evaluating new technology on their own. For smaller Michigan credit unions in particular, that shared vetting can meaningfully shorten the distance between “interested” and “implemented.”

Nicholas Hinrichsen, CEO of Clutch, framed the partnership as a step toward more consistent digital experiences across Michigan’s credit union system. MCUL President Dave Adams pointed to the broader stakes: as member expectations shift toward instant, fintech-style lending experiences, credit unions that can’t keep pace risk losing both loan volume and long-term member relationships to institutions that can.

For Michigan credit union executives, the partnership is worth a look less because of what it announces and more because of what it removes – a layer of vendor evaluation risk that leagues are well-positioned to absorb on behalf of their members.
